The Five Animal play (Wu Qin Xi).
The most ancient healing exercise still practiced today. The Five Animals were created by Hua Tuo, the father of Chinese Medicine, in the second century A.D. The Five Animals are the Crane for relaxation, the Bear for strength, the Monkey for flexibility, the Deer for grace, and the Tiger for power.
The Crane Frolic develops balance, lightness, and agility. It cools and relaxes the whole body, balances the heart-energy, gently stretches the ligaments, and releases the spine.
The Bear Frolic to develops deep-rooted power. It creates greater leg strength, fortifies the bones, and develops energy in the kidneys, which is the body's fundamental source of vitality.
The Monkey Frolic develops suppleness and agility. It helps a person become quick witted, alert, and nimble.
The Deer Frolic develops grace and relaxation. It gives a long stretch to the legs and spine, creating an open, expansive movement with very flexible muscles and bones.
The Tiger Frolic develops muscular strength. It strengthens the waist, muscles, and kidneys and builds internal power.

Standing Meditation (Zhan Zhuang).
Standing Meditation is the foundation of qigong practice. The student learns to stand in meditative postures for a period of time in order to improve posture, deepen the breath, and increase the body's structural integrity and strength. In addition to learning standing techniques, students learn a system of balanced, meditative walking.

CHINESE MEDICINE BASICS: THE 13 CAUSES OF DISEASE
Chenzen Wellness Centre, Dalian
TIME: 3 -5 pm,
see our fee policy here

Traditional Chinese Medicine views the cause of disease in two main areas: external causes and internal causes. The external forces of wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and summer heat can invade and seriously alter the balance within the body by diminishing, or blocking the flow of qi (vital energy) in the organs. The seven internal causes are brought about by intense, prolonged, or suppressed feelings (sadness, grief, pensiveness, fear, fright, anger and joy) that energetically stagnate the energy of the organs and meridians. In this TCM workshop you will learn how to release exterior pathogens and regulate the internal emotional factors to both prevent and cure common diseases.
